About this database
Every figure comes from the FAA National Airspace System Resources (NASR) 28-Day Subscription, May 14, 2026 cycle. We include only operational, public-use airports (FAA site type "airport," facility use "public"), which is why the count sits near 4,700 rather than the 15,000-plus you see when private strips, heliports, and seaplane bases are folded in. Nationwide, 569 are towered, 2,252 sell Jet A fuel, 503 hold FAA Part 139 commercial certification, and 772 have an ILS approach.
What is a "public-use" airport?
A public-use airport is open to all pilots without prior permission from the owner, as designated by the FAA. That is different from who owns it. Many public-use airports are privately owned but available to the general flying public. This database covers the 4,708 operational public-use airports the FAA lists across the 50 states and DC, and excludes private-use strips, heliports, and seaplane bases.
What data does each state page show?
For every airport: FAA identifier, city and county, ownership, longest runway length and width, surface, fuel available, control tower status, on-field airframe and powerplant repair, FAA Part 139 commercial certification, ILS approach, field elevation, and airport acreage. All of it is drawn from the FAA's published record.
Why do these fields matter for value?
Runway length and width, fuel, tower, and instrument approaches determine what kinds of aircraft an airport attracts, which in turn drives hangar demand and rent. A towered field with Jet A and an ILS supports corporate hangars at premium rents; a short turf strip does not. Ownership shapes the ground lease and reversion that can cap a hangar's value below replacement cost.

The FAA NASR 28-Day Subscription (APT_BASE, APT_RWY, and APT_RWY_END files), May 14, 2026 cycle. Based-aircraft counts are not part of NASR; those come from the FAA 5010 / ADIP record and can be added separately.
